Jim Osman is a London-based writer, researcher, musician and interdisciplinary artist working across speculative fiction, interactive storytelling, experimental sound and performance. His practice brings together gamebooks, tabletop roleplaying, retro computing, media archaeology, narrative systems and mixed-media storytelling.
He holds an MA in Opera Directing and has presented research on speculative fiction, cyberpunk culture and audio dramaturgy at academic conferences. His research interests include educational psychology and technology, speculative fiction studies, digital folklore, systems theory, narrative design and solo roleplaying games.
The Encrypted Forest was a mixed-media storytelling show built around an anthology of short fiction by contributing writers and sound artists. Performed as a sample-based one-man show, it explored hauntology and cyberpunk through short fiction, sound and audiovisual collage. He also develops and teaches courses in gamebook design, solo roleplaying and interactive storytelling.
Under the name Rhizocorp, he makes experimental electronic music and sound performance. He has appeared at festivals including Supernormal, LUFF and Braille Satellite, supported Cabaret Voltaire, and written on experimental music and speculative culture for The Quietus.
